Immigration Guide
Family reunification lets eligible non-EU residents in Cyprus apply for their close non-EU family members to join them. It is a document-heavy immigration route, and the strongest applications are prepared around the sponsor's residence history, income, accommodation and family evidence.
Important distinction: this guide focuses on third-country nationals sponsoring third-country national family members. EU citizens, Cypriot citizens and family members of EU citizens use different legal routes and should check the relevant category before collecting documents.
The sponsor is the person already legally living in Cyprus. In the standard family reunification route, the sponsor must normally show:
Dependent parents and adult children usually do not fit this specific family reunification route, although other residence categories may be possible depending on facts.
The sponsor submits the family reunification application in Cyprus while the family members are usually still abroad.

Collect relationship documents, passports, police certificates, income evidence, accommodation evidence and insurance. Foreign public documents may need Apostille/legalisation and certified translation.
The sponsor submits the family reunification application and supporting documents to the Civil Registry and Migration Department or the currently instructed submission channel.
The authorities examine the sponsor's eligibility, income, accommodation, insurance and family relationship evidence. Processing can be lengthy, so keep residence permits and documents valid while waiting.
After approval, family members follow the instructed entry process and then complete residence-permit formalities, including biometrics and fees, after arrival.
Requirements can vary by nationality and case history, but the file commonly includes:
| Document Category | Common Documents |
|---|---|
| For the Sponsor in Cyprus | |
| Status | Passport, valid Cyprus residence permit, ARC and proof of legal residence history. |
| Income | Employment contract, payslips, tax return, social insurance evidence, bank statements and/or business income evidence. |
| Accommodation | Stamped rental agreement, title deed or other accepted proof that the home is adequate for the family. |
| Insurance / Healthcare | Private health insurance or other accepted healthcare evidence for the sponsor and family members. |
| For Family Members Abroad | |
| Application | Completed Form MFR1 and any current authority-specific forms/checklists. |
| Identity | Valid passports with sufficient validity and copies of relevant pages. |
| Relationship Proof | Marriage certificate, birth certificates, adoption/custody documents and parental consent where relevant. |
| Criminal Record | Clean criminal record certificates for adults, usually recent and properly legalised/translated. |
| Medical / Insurance | Medical certificates and insurance documents where requested for the specific application. |
Family members who receive residence permits can live in Cyprus under the terms of their permit. School access, healthcare access and employment rights depend on their status and the permit conditions. Employment access may be restricted at first, so do not assume a spouse can work immediately without checking the permit terms.
