Who Can Apply?

You may be eligible if you are a national of a country outside the EU and EEA and you can work remotely from Cyprus using technology.

  • You are employed by a company registered abroad, or you are self-employed and provide services to clients located abroad.
  • You do not work for, provide services to, or run projects for Cyprus-based employers or clients under this route.
  • You can prove stable and sufficient monthly net income of at least EUR 3,500 after taxes and contributions.
  • You can provide the required documents, including income evidence, accommodation, health insurance, criminal-record and medical evidence.

Income Requirement

The official baseline is EUR 3,500 net per month for the main applicant. If family members join you, the requirement increases.

Applicant groupMinimum monthly net income
Main applicant onlyEUR 3,500
Main applicant plus spouse or civil partnerEUR 4,200 (20% increase)
Main applicant plus spouse and one childEUR 4,725 (20% plus 15%)
Each additional minor childAdd another 15% of the base amount, currently EUR 525 per month.

Use recent bank statements, salary slips, employment contracts, service contracts, dividend statements or other reliable proof showing regular income from outside Cyprus.

Step-by-Step Application Process

Check eligibility before travelling. Confirm that your work is genuinely remote and foreign-sourced, and that your income is above the threshold.
Enter Cyprus legally. The residence application is submitted after arrival. You must apply within 3 months of arrival.
Secure accommodation and insurance. Prepare proof of Cyprus address and comprehensive health insurance covering Cyprus.
Prepare official documents. Foreign documents must be officially translated and duly certified or ratified where required.
Submit at the Migration Department in Nicosia. Applications can be submitted personally or through an authorised representative.
Provide biometrics. Photo, fingerprints and signature are required for the temporary residence permit card.
Renew in time. Renewal applications should be submitted at least one month before the temporary residence permit expires.

Core Document Checklist

  • Current Digital Nomad application form, currently listed as Form MVIS8 on the official forms page.
  • Valid passport and evidence of legal entry or legal residence in Cyprus.
  • Employment contract or client/service contracts proving foreign-sourced remote work.
  • Evidence of stable net monthly income of at least EUR 3,500, usually including recent bank statements.
  • Proof of accommodation in Cyprus.
  • Comprehensive health insurance.
  • Clean criminal-record certificate and required medical evidence, translated/certified where needed.
  • Family-status documents for spouse, civil partner or children, if included.

Family Members

Your spouse or civil partner and underage children can receive residence rights for the same period as you. The official rule is important: family members do not have the right to be employed or perform economic activity in Cyprus under this route.

Fees and Duration

  • Issuance or renewal of temporary residence permit: EUR 70.
  • Aliens' Registry registration, only for initial registration where needed: EUR 70.
  • First permit duration: 1 year.
  • Renewal duration: up to 2 further years.

Tax Notes

The Digital Nomad residence permit is an immigration status, not a tax ruling. The official Digital Nomad information says that if you reside in Cyprus for one or more periods exceeding 183 days in the same tax year, you are considered Cyprus tax resident, provided you are not tax resident in another country.

Tax residence, domicile, source-country tax and social insurance can be complex. Speak with a qualified adviser before assuming how your remote income, company dividends or freelance income will be taxed.

Common Mistakes

  • Applying too late after entering Cyprus.
  • Providing services to a Cyprus client or employer while using the Digital Nomad route.
  • Preparing foreign documents without apostille/legalisation and certified translation where required.
  • Assuming the visa gives Schengen access. Cyprus is not yet fully in Schengen as of this review date.
  • Forgetting that family members cannot work under the dependent Digital Nomad permit.
